Plugfest

The NFC Forum Plugfest events are designed to promote the interoperability of NFC Forum implementations by providing Forum members an opportunity to verify the level of interaction of their own implementation with other NFC Forum implementations. It offers members a safe environment in which to demonstrate how a device will work in a real setting. Plugfest interoperability testing complements the conformance testing of the Certification Program.

The format offers device-to-device testing, with the option of focusing on RF, Digital Protocol, LLCP capabilities or all, access to a "library" of various NFC Forum tags and smart posters; as well as an opportunity to confirm your implementation alongside some test tools. It is open to a wide range of implementations from tags to commercial devices, including prototypes and evaluation boards.

During the multi-day event, participants are paired based on similar interests and implementation levels. Individual testing sessions are scheduled throughout the day to maximize interaction between the broadest number of participants.

Additionally, the Forum facilitates interoperability testing tracks for existing market implementations in select ecosystems.

The focus of an interoperability testing tracks, is to confirm the exchange of market specific data, using the NFC Forum defined stack, is working as expected against existing systems. The objective is to promote the usage of the NFC Forum specifications within a unique ecosystem and to identify potential improvements to the NFC Forum specifications when used in the context of that ecosystem. The first interoperability testing track introduced was payments.

Only NFC Forum members can participate in Plugfest events.

Future Events

The NFC Forum sponsors three Plugfest events a year. To help with your planning, the Forum has pre-announced the following dates for 2012:

• February 4-6
• June 2-4 or June 9-11
• October 27-29
